Gracie Jiu Jitsu Seminar

Jiu Jitsu Global Federation Black Belt 4th Degree, Eddie Kone – https://www.instagram.com/ekbjj/, recently conducted a two hour Gracie Jiu Jitsu seminar at Kingston BJJ. The seminar started with a focus on finding a safe position when caught in Side Control. We focused on physical protection and body alignment.

Teaching alongside Eddie, Diccon Lynes – https://jjgf.com/academy-member/diccon-lynes, Head Instructor at Kingston BJJ. Eddie discussed base and posture and how to alleviate downward pressure. Details were explained on how to avoid being put flat on your back by applying correct structure. We also looked at how to get back to your side while avoiding punches.

The second part of the Gracie Jiu Jitsu seminar centred around keeping your head safe from punches and elbow strikes. We looked at the frame to avoid far side body shots and where to position our arms for self defence. Also, minimising submission opportunities for the agressor.

Once safe, with good posture, correct structure and hidden from strikes, we looked at escapes and timing. Diccon and Eddie stressed the importance of good connection, particularly the connection between foot and shoulder to maintain good structure and facilite an escape.

Students learn Gracie Jiu Jitsu self defence at Kingston BJJ. Classes include all of the self defence techniques for wrist, clothing and head grabs. We learn and practice head lock defences, standing guillotine defences, punch and kick defences.

We also teach clinching and clinch combinations to take an agressor to the ground. Our Kingston BJJ lessons are split 50/50 between clinching techniques and Gracie Jiu Jitsu groundwork.
