A skilled teacher who is often openly credited by new members of the team for his willingness to share his skills and help people progress. Luke loves submissions and has become a specialist at submitting people if they have managed to pass his guard.
I first began training with the Lifestyle Team back in 2013 - I was a 20 year old armchair UFC fan who had never tried Brazilian Jiu Jitsu before, and at 5ft 8 and 89kg was also not in great shape. I had my first "roll", got submitted in approximately 15 seconds, and haven't looked back since.
BJJ swiftly became, and still is, my favourite form of exercise. I'd tried weightlifting and other workouts but I always struggled to stay motivated with them as I knew I wasn't really enjoying it. My first Jiu Jitsu lesson felt different; I enjoyed it immediately, felt exhausted afterwards and was also learning a practical skill that could save my life (and since has).
Within a year of training BJJ, my weight was down to a much more appropriate 70kg, I had gained confidence in myself and had also made a bunch of friends through the Lifestyle Team. I received my brown belt from Diccon Lynes in 2020, having also received my blue and purple belts here in 2014 & 2017 respectively.
What I love most about training here is the clear and detailed instructions we always receive from Diccon, the focus on drilling and repetition we have in our classes and the relaxed friendly atmosphere of everybody at the club.
