One of the biggest lessons Leo has taught me – maintain position. Of course, much easier said than done but the principle of keeping position is something I am constantly trying to remind myself. Leo doesn’t take the risk of losing position, he always tries to progress his position and is always looking for the submission.
Stopping Leo from passing guard is something I have never seen anyone do – and once past, you never see him scrambling in a neutral position trying to be the first to regain control – he never loses control. I have learned so much just watching. You see him letting people move but only allowing them to move to a worse position where he exercises further control and almost inevitably, delivers a submission. You never see him relinquishing a position – a true master with an ability that we will all be striving for on the team.
