Comprehensive BJJ Self Defence

Comprehensive BJJ self defence is our absolute focus at Kingston BJJ. If you are looking for a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club where the emphasis is Gracie Jiu Jitsu self defence rather than sports Jiu Jitsu, then we are the perfect BJJ club for you.

You can join us at two locations. The sea cadets centre in Kingston, very close to Kingston bridge, and the British Legion in Long Ditton, near Surbiton.

You will learn clinching, and standing self defence techniques. Our training includes, throws, trips, takedowns and close quarter self defence.

Come along and be taught by head instructor, Diccon Lynes, a Black Belt First Degree. Diccon is recognised by Rickson Gracie’s Jiu Jitsu Global Federation – https://jjgf.com/academy-member/diccon-lynes. Diccon trains extensively every week, with his teacher, Eddie Kone. Eddie is a Fourth Degree Black Belt with the JJGF.

Jiu Jitsu Self Defence At Kingston BJJ
A third of our training time is given to standing situations, every single lesson.

Are you interested in learning highly effective distance management and clinching, if so, come along to a lesson. We repeat a lot of what we learn because just seeing and learning a technique for one lesson, isn’t enough. We constantly repeat our techniques because we are trying to develop muscle memory and instant reaction to attacks.

At Kingston BJJ, our training includes, multiple different standing headlock defences, standing guillotine defence, punch defence and many other techniques.

Your BJJ lessons will include how to stop someone picking you up, wrist grab defence and clothing controls.

A complete self defence system wouldn’t be effective without techniques and responses for attacks from the rear. That’s why we work on over the arms body control from behind, drags and throat grabs.

As a student you will be taken through a cycle of techniques on a monthly basis. You will benefit from this approach because extensive time is given to Jiu Jitsu skill development.

Being a student at Kingston BJJ, you will become proficient at the individual techniques we teach, and with time, will chain them together. We are driving towards flowing responses to a changing situation. Being able to react quickly in a crisis situation is paramount. Our training involves making the right choices under pressure, which is essential.

Our BJJ members show great proficency in this type of training after 6 months of consistent lesson attendance. Their skill level is defined by the amount of work they’ve put in, week to week.
