Jiu Jitsu Self Defence at Kingston BJJ. We are a self defence based Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club in Kingston. This means we always spend a lot of time learning defences from a standing position, subsequently getting better.
Jiu Jitsu Self Defence
Our interest is not sport Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Our interest is Gracie Jiu Jitsu self defence.

You can read about Diccon, our head instructor, here: https://kingstonbjj.com/diccon-lynes/. Diccon trains extensively with his teacher, Eddie Kone.
Eddie is a Black Belt Fourth Degree under the JJGF https://jjgf.com/academy-member/eddie-kone-academy-of-gracie-jiu-jitsu
Training Session Structure
Every training session we carry on learning clinching, therefore, our confidence grows from lesson to lesson. We learn and practice defences against punches and kicks, too.
So, a typical standing practice might include defence against close range punches, defence against long range punches or defences against body grabs.
The body posture we teach includes how we face an agressor from a hand positioning point of view and our physical structure. Physical structure practice includes how to achieve a strong base. This training is critical because we may need to employ our skills under great pressure.
Defences Against Surprise Attacks
You could be faced with someone who is being aggressive in conversation range and you must have immediate answers for headlocks, bear hugs and clothing grabs. This training is incredibly important but it doesn’t mean we neglect our groundwork.
We are looking for constant refinement because we need quick reactions.
In conclusion, at Kingston BJJ you will learn Jiu Jitsu to defend yourself, we are dedicated to teaching the skills that will give you greater confidence.
